Lahore’s air quality showed noticeable improvement on Sunday as the city’s Air Quality Index was recorded at 181, a level described as better compared to previous years during mid-December. Officials attributed the improvement to the Punjab government’s immediate and strict anti-smog measures, which are now yielding positive results.

According to official data, wind speeds today ranged between eight to 10 kilometers per hour, creating favorable conditions for the dispersion of smog and reducing its overall intensity across the city.

The temperature is expected to reach 24 degrees Celsius, further supporting improved atmospheric conditions.

The Punjab government continues to enforce its anti-smog plan under a zero-tolerance policy. Authorities have intensified indiscriminate action against all elements responsible for smog, ensuring that no sector is exempt from accountability.

Strict monitoring is being carried out on industrial emissions, brick kilns, and smoke-emitting vehicles, which are considered major contributors to air pollution in the province.

Punjab Chief Minister has made anti-smog squads fully operational and is conducting 24/7 monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. These squads are actively inspecting industrial zones, construction sites, and traffic hotspots to curb harmful emissions.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities by following the issued guidelines. She advised the public to use masks, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and take precautionary measures, especially individuals with sensitive health conditions.

The minister emphasised that public cooperation is essential for the long-term elimination of smog. She called on residents to play their role by adhering to environmental regulations and supporting government efforts aimed at improving air quality and protecting public health across Lahore and Punjab.
