Only state has authority to declare jihad: CDF Munir
Field marshal urges religious scholars to keep nation united and broaden people’s vision

Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir stated that in an Islamic state, no one except the state has the authority to declare jihad.
Addressing the National Ulema and Mashaikh Conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said that terrorism is not Pakistan’s practice but India’s, asserting that Pakistan confronts its enemies openly rather than through covert means. He added that the nation achieved victory in the “battle of truth” through divine support.
The COAS emphasised the central role of the state, the importance of knowledge, and the responsibility of religious leadership in guiding the nation. He urged religious scholars to maintain unity within the nation and to broaden people’s perspectives.

He warned that societies that abandon knowledge and the pen fall prey to disorder and corruption. He stressed that honour and strength are achieved through hard work and learning rather than division and discord.
Field Marshal Munir also described the recent defence agreement with Saudi Arabia as historic, adding that Allah has bestowed upon Pakistan, among all Muslim countries, the honour of being the protectors of the Haramain - the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. He added that the 'State of Tayyaba' and the State of Pakistan share a deep connection.
