Tortellini, the goldfish who became widely recognised for defeating major Elden Ring bosses while swimming in a tank connected to game controls, has died at the age of three.

Streamer PointCrow announced the news on X, stating that Tortellini had been battling a systemic bacterial infection and that his condition had recently worsened despite ongoing care.

PointCrow told viewers that he had done everything possible, noting the fragility of fancy goldfish and adding that after three years “it was his time to go.” He used his announcement to highlight Tortellini’s unexpected achievements, which became a notable part of gaming livestream culture.

“I really want to highlight all the accomplishments Tortellini has done,” he wrote. “Not only was he one of the only goldfish to play video games, but defeated some of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring, Malenia and Consort Radahn, to name a few.”

PointCrow also referenced moments from previous streams, including Tortellini purchasing an Oil Cooler Inlet Pipe for a Nissan Altima and two designer bags through in-game actions.

Tortellini’s rise to online popularity came from a custom motion-tracking rig designed to convert his movements in the tank into controller inputs.

Viewers followed his progress as he slowly worked through Elden Ring’s challenges, turning the fish into an unexpected gaming figure whose unusual play style became a recurring talking point across social media.

“He was there to make us all laugh and bewilder us on how a small fish could do so much,” PointCrow wrote, adding that Tortellini “lived a god damn good life” and that he would miss him deeply.

He ended his message by saying he hoped Tortellini was “swimming in the great tank in the sky right now as happy as he can be.”
