Twitch star Nina Lin refuses to apologise after alleged Target shoplifting on stream
Nina Lin, the 24-year-old Twitch streamer, faced online accusations of shoplifting after a clip circulated showing her at a Target self-checkout during a recent live stream.
In the footage, some viewers noted that Lin appeared to scan only a stick of butter while also bagging a steak, prompting claims that she was attempting to avoid paying for certain items.

Is this the kind of behavior that Twitch allows? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/CxLMmM8nWKLin addressed the allegations directly on stream, saying, “Even if it was the steaks… ain't nobody missing no fucking money. Calm the fuck down.”
She added that Target was not losing any money over the items, including the steak, and later held up a shoe she claimed she had obtained for free from the store. Her comments were peppered with expletives and dismissive remarks toward online critics.

The incident sparked debate on social media about Twitch’s policies and responsibility regarding content that may depict illegal activity. Some users questioned whether such behavior aligns with the platform’s community standards.
Retail theft has been a significant concern for Target in recent years. In 2023, CEO Brian Cornell highlighted the challenges of retail and organized crime, with the company estimating $500 million in losses due to stolen merchandise.
However, Target has since reported improvements, citing stronger inventory tracking and law enforcement coordination, with shrink rates now expected to fall below pre-pandemic levels.
Lin has not issued a formal apology regarding the incident, instead maintaining her stance that no harm was done financially and dismissing the online criticism.
