ISLAMABAD:

The phase of mandatorily affixing E-Tags on every vehicle entering the capital city has begun, leading to long queues on the very first day. All vehicles entering the federal capital will now be required to have an E-Tag (M-Tag).

The district administration has set up e-tagging facilities at seven locations across the city. Vehicles that already have an M-Tag affixed are not required to get the new one. The matter of applying E-Tags to motorcycles is also currently under consideration.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner, Irfan Nawaz Memon, stated that every step would be taken to make the city secure and provide convenience to the citizens.

According to details, the decision to affix M-Tags on all vehicles entering Islamabad was officially implemented yesterday. The district administration has established facilities at the following seven locations for citizens to get their M-Tags: Kachnar Park, Lake View Park, F-9 Park, Islamabad Club, Tarlai Kalan, Chungi No. 26, Gulberg Green and Islamabad Excise Office.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Commissioner Memon said that citizens can get their M-Tags affixed from 9am to 9pm. At the Excise Office, tagging is available after 3pm.

FWO has set up booths near the old toll plaza at Chungi No. 26. The tag can also be obtained from Motorway booths. The Deputy Commissioner clarified that vehicles already possessing an M-Tag do not need to get the new E-Tag.

The cost for the M-Tag is Rs250, though an increase of Rs50 is possible. The DC urged all citizens to get the tag, warning that vehicles without an M-Tag will not be allowed to enter Islamabad. He concluded by saying that all these measures are being taken to ensure the security and convenience of the citizens.
