Army chief said that Pakistani soldiers fought with conviction, purpose

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan remains a peace-loving country but will respond decisively to any aggression, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir said on Sunday, citing the armed forces' response to India during Marka-e-Haq in May as an example of the country's resolve.

Speaking to the media at the Presidency after the departure of King Abdullah II of Jordan, he referred to Quranic verses to draw parallels between historical battles and the spirit with which Pakistan's forces operated.

Field Marshal Asim said the army had stepped forward "in the path of Allah" and emerged with honour during Marka-e-Haq. He reiterated that Pakistan seeks peace, yet any attempt by an enemy to impose war will be met with the same firmness demonstrated earlier this year.

Referring again to Quranic guidance, the army chief said that Pakistani soldiers fought with conviction and purpose. He added that the victory achieved in May was granted by Allah, stressing that the success was a divine blessing.
