Balochistan pavilion steals the show at Lok Mela
Vibrant showcase of arts, crafts and folk music draws crowds

At the ongoing "Lok Mela" organised by Lok Virsa, each province has been provided a space to showcase its local folk traditions and culture.
The Balochistan Pavilion, set up by the Department of Culture, Government of Balochistan, is attracting great attention with its vibrant display of Balochi arts, crafts, folk music, rituals, traditions, cuisine, and entertainment.
Located at the centre of the festival grounds, the pavilion's beautifully crafted entrance reflects traditional Balochi architecture and aesthetics, giving visitors the feeling of stepping into Balochistan.
The Balochistan contingent includes several master artisans, among them Kaneez Fatima and Shakir Bibi, experts in embroidery; Arzi Khan, who specialises in woodwork and making musical instruments; Fazal Kakar, an expert in Balochi embroidery; and Rozi Khan, known for crafting traditional Balochi footwear.
Particularly notable is Kaneez Fatima, a 48-year-old educated woman who has been participating in Lok Mela for the past 26 years.
She is renowned not only for her craftsmanship but also for her dedication to preserving and passing on this traditional art form to future generations. Many of her students have now become professionals in their own right. Over the years, she has received numerous cash prizes and certificates for her contributions.
The pavilion also features "Sajji", one of Balochistan's most famous dishes, which has become a favourite among visitors from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
People have praised its unique flavour and traditional preparation.
A Balochistan Musical Night was held on November 8, featuring renowned folk singers and musicians, including Akhtar Chanal, Urooj Fatima, Zakir Hussain, Muhammad Baloch, Azeem Jan, Muhammad Qasim, Moeen Sherani, Raza Sheeda, and Muhammad Asim.
They captivated the audience with soulful performances and received overwhelming appreciation.
The colourful Lok Mela will continue in all its vibrancy until November 16, 2023, offering visitors a chance to experience the rich and diverse cultures of all provinces of Pakistan in one place.
