College students in Karachi invent glasses to prevent car accidents

Innovative device can help prevent road mishaps, especially designed for drivers prone to fatigue

A group of college students showcased their ingenuity at a recent science exhibition by developing 'anti-car accident glasses', designed to help prevent road mishaps, especially for drivers prone to fatigue.

The invention was created by NCR College students Haroon Arif, Zameen, Faiqa, and Hamza. Haroon explained that the glasses are equipped with an infrared (IR) sensor that detects if a driver closes eyes or begins to doze off while driving. Once triggered, a buzzer sounds loudly, alerting the driver and helping prevent potential accidents.

“These glasses are particularly useful for drivers who lose focus on driving due to drowsiness or fatigue,” Haroon said. The glasses are built using basic electronic components, including an IR sensor, jumper wires, a battery, and a resistor.

The innovative glasses drew significant attention at the exhibition, ultimately securing first prize. Visitors and judges alike praised the invention, highlighting its potential to enhance road safety through modern technology.
