David Harbour’s absence from the press tour for Stranger Things season five has raised questions among fans, especially given the recent release of his ex-wife Lily Allen’s new album West End Girl, which features lyrics allegedly referencing their past relationship. However, according to E! News, Harbour’s nonappearance has nothing to do with the album or its personal revelations.

The actor, who plays the fan-favorite character Jim Hopper, was reportedly never scheduled to participate in the promotional events for Stranger Things’ highly anticipated final season. Instead, Harbour has been occupied with filming commitments for his upcoming thriller Evil Genius, directed by Friends star Courteney Cox. The project also features Patricia Arquette, known for her acclaimed performance in Severance.

Evil Genius is an adaptation of the real-life crime story previously explored in the Netflix documentary of the same name. Sources told E! News that Harbour’s work on the film has prevented him from joining the show’s cast on the press circuit. Despite this, the actor is expected to attend the Los Angeles premiere of Stranger Things season five, scheduled for November 6.

Online speculation about Harbour’s absence had intensified following the release of West End Girl in late October. The album’s lead single, Tennis, has been widely discussed for its alleged portrayal of Harbour’s behavior during the couple’s marriage. Social media users jokingly claimed the actor was “off playing tennis” instead of doing press, referencing the song’s title.

While Harbour has not publicly addressed the album or its claims, he did speak to Esquire Spain on November 1 about Stranger Things coming to an end. “There’s sadness and fear, but also an opportunity to have more time and space to do your own thing,” he said. “I’m excited about what I’ve learned over the years on Stranger Things.”
