Four labourers were killed and six others suffered bullet wounds in an ambush in Surab, some 200 kilometres from Quetta, on Sunday evening.
The labourers were on their way back from work to their residential colony when gunmen opened fire on them. As a result, three of them died on the spot, while seven received multiple bullet injuries. The attackers managed to escape from the scene.
The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, where one of them, identified as Shabbir Ahmed, was rushed to the Khuzdar hospital where he was pronounced dead. Others who lost their lives have been identified as Mukhtar Ahmed, Jamal Ahmed and Muhammad Ishaq.
The victims, who belonged to Ghotki and Rahim Yar Khan, worked as labourers in a gas plant situated in Surab tehsil. The bodies have been shifted to their native towns. The injured include Manzoor Ahmed, Noor Hassan, Gulab, Khadim Hussain, Bashir Ahmed and Muhammad Ishaq.
According to hospital sources, three of the injured, stated to be in critical condition, have been admitted to the Divisional Headquarters Hospital in Khuzdar.
“No one is ready to help the police, even the injured are completely blank regarding the incident,” a police officer told The Express Tribune.
“It was a sudden attack and I don’t know whether the attackers were on a motorbike or hiding in a narrow street,” Jamal Ahmed, one of the injured labourer, said.
The Surab police have registered a case and started investigations.
