Sony Pictures Animation confirms 'Motel Transylvania', the 'Hotel Transylvania' spinoff, will now release in 2027

The upcoming Hotel Transylvania spinoff series, Motel Transylvania, has been given a new release window following a delay in production. Sony Pictures Animation confirmed that the series will now premiere on Netflix in 2027, two years later than originally scheduled.

The studio shared the update on its official X account, writing, “The gremling wrecking crew is working overtime at the Motel Transylvania. Coming to Netflix in 2027.” No official reason for the delay has been provided.

Motel Transylvania will follow Dracula (Drac) and his daughter Mavis as they leave their iconic hotel behind and travel to California to open a new resort welcoming both humans and monsters.

The series is produced by Sony Pictures Animation, though details about the voice cast and potential new characters have not yet been announced.

The Hotel Transylvania franchise remains one of Sony’s most successful animated properties, spanning four feature films, three short films, a television series, and several video games.

The first film, released in 2012, introduced audiences to Dracula, voiced by Adam Sandler, and his daughter Mavis, played by Selena Gomez. The story followed Mavis as she falls in love with a human, Johnny, voiced by Andy Samberg.

Subsequent instalments expanded the monster family’s adventures. Hotel Transylvania 2 introduced Mavis and Johnny’s half-human, half-vampire son Dennis, while Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018) saw Dracula meet Ericka Van Helsing.

The final film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania (2022), featured Brian Hull as Dracula and focused on a quest to reverse a magical transformation.

A prequel series, Hotel Transylvania: The Series, aired from 2017 to 2020 and explored Mavis’s younger years at the family hotel. With Motel Transylvania now on the way, fans can expect a new chapter in the franchise’s monster-filled universe when it arrives on Netflix in 2027.
