ISLAMABAD:

The CDA is set to organise the "Islamabad Sheher Mela" to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Islamabad's Master Plan, which coincides with World Cities Day.

The festival will commence on October 30 at the Gandhara Citizen Club, F-9 Park (Gate No. 4), from 2pm to 9pm. According to a CDA spokesperson, the event aims to highlight Islamabad's evolution as a planned, sustainable and citizen-friendly capital.

The "Sheher Mela" will feature smart innovation solutions, electric vehicle (EV) displays and rides, musical performances, a drum circle, children's entertainment zones and food courts showcasing local cuisine.

Talking to media on Tuesday, the spokesperson said that the festival will celebrate Islamabad's progress and community spirit. "Islamabad Sheher Mela is not only about honouring the city's 65-year planning legacy but also about engaging citizens in shaping its future. We want to showcase how innovation and sustainability can enhance urban living," he stated.

The CDA, established in 1960, has overseen the capital's development since its inception under the original Master Plan designed by Greek architect Constantinos A. Doxiadis. Over the decades, Islamabad has become recognised for its greenery, urban desig, and balance between modern infrastructure and natural landscapes.

The upcoming mela, officials say, will offer an opportunity for residents to reconnect with their city's identity while exploring future-forward technologies that could redefine mobility and sustainability in the capital. "This event symbolises our collective pride - Islamabad is not just a city, it's our shared home," a senior CDA official remarked.

Residents and visitors are invited to join the festivities at F-9 Park to celebrate "Our City, Our Pride, Our Home." World Cities Day, observed annually on October 31, promotes global awareness about sustainable urban development. DNA
