A local journalist, Zafar Saeed Satti, was shot dead allegedly by an assailant in the Ban Union Council area on Tuesday. According to rescue officials, the victim sustained two bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
New Murree Police said that following the attack, the assailant fled the scene. The victim's body was later shifted to THQ Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary police investigations suggested that the incident might have stemmed from a family dispute, though authorities are exploring all possible angles.
According to the victim's son, the assailants allegedly devised a plan to lure his father from Rawalpindi under the guise of attending a jirga, where he was subsequently murdered in broad daylight.
An appeal was made to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Inspector General of Punjab Police, and the wider journalistic community to ensure that justice is delivered and the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
The Murree District Police Officer (DPO) took prompt notice of the case, directing the immediate arrest of those involved and ensuring a transparent inquiry.
The incident sparked fear and anxiety in the area, while the journalistic community expressed profound grief and demanded the swift arrest of the culprits.
