RAWALPINDI:

Additional District and Sessions Judge Afshan Ijaz Sufi on Monday sentenced an accused to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs200,000 and compensatory damages amounting to Rs500,000, in the high-profile student sexual assault case registered at Saddar Beruni Police Station.

In a separate judgment, the Sessions Court convicted three drug suppliers in narcotics cases, collectively awarding them 27 years of imprisonment and imposing fines totalling Rs240,000.

In the assault case, the court found Jaleel Nawaz alias Jeela, son of Muhammad Nawaz, guilty of sexually assaulting student Daniyal and engaging in indecent conduct. The convict was awarded 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs200,000; in default of payment, he will undergo an additional six months' imprisonment.

Under the provisions of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act 2021, the court further directed the payment of Rs500,000 as compensation to the victim's family. The case had been registered by Saddar Beruni Police in September 2024.

Meanwhile, in three separate narcotics cases, the court handed down 27 years' cumulative imprisonment and fines of Rs240,000 to convicted drug traffickers.
