Punjab govt to increase medical college seats

LAHORE:

The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has asked the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council to increase the number of sanctioned MBBS seats in public sector colleges of the province.

The department had written a letter to the PMDC on August 21, urging it to increase the number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges of Punjab by 475.

Presiding over a meeting, Punjab Specialised Healthcare Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said there were 3476 MBBS seats in 17 government medical colleges of the province. With the passage of time, the number of beds in tertiary care hospitals affiliated to the medical colleges has increased and the number of faculty members will also be hiked.

The minister said the PMDC had been requested to increase the number of MBBS seats for the academic session 2025-26. The council has also been requested to approve 50 seats for the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dentistry.

Provincial Secretary for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Azmat Mahmood Khan said the exam for medical college admissions was going to be held on October 26.
