Jeremy Allen White, best known for his Emmy-winning role in The Bear, is stepping into a galaxy far, far away for his Star Wars debut.

The actor will play Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian and Grogu, an upcoming film directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with Dave Filoni.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, White shared insights into his alien character, revealing that Rotta isn’t just another sluggish Hutt like Jabba. “He’s a bit broader, but still a Hutt,” White said, adding that fans can expect surprising agility. “Rotta can move quickly, yes.”

White also teased an unexpected team-up between Rotta and the Mandalorian. “It’s kind of like him and the Mandalorian running around for a lot of the movie together,” he said, sparking excitement among Star Wars fans.

Fans got their first glimpse of Rotta earlier this year through a leaked image shown at Star Wars Celebration. The shot featured Rotta raising his arms before a massive crowd, signaling a more dynamic and independent version of the character than the one seen in The Clone Wars (2008).

Director Jon Favreau explained that Rotta’s reinvention was intentional. “We draw inspiration from the Extended Universe,” he said. “There are many types of Hutts, and we wanted to show that range.”

The Mandalorian and Grogu, starring Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jonny Coyne, is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026, marking a major expansion of the Star Wars universe.
