Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have reportedly ended plans to marry, with multiple sources suggesting their relationship has become “toxic.”
The pair, who began dating in July 2023, have not been seen together for several months, prompting speculation about a potential split.
According to the Daily Mail, insiders claimed that Grande and Slater’s wedding discussions have been “called off” after a series of disagreements. “At one time, they discussed marriage, but that is no longer on the table,” one source said.
The “Dangerous Woman” singer and the SpongeBob SquarePants actor last appeared publicly in April, when Slater attended a preview of Little Shop of Horrors to support Grande’s Victorious co-star Liz Gillies. Since then, the two have maintained a low profile.
Their absence together was noted at the MTV VMAs, where Grande won three awards. Sources told the outlet that Slater chose not to attend after an argument, though they later reconciled. “They’ve both been running hot and cold with each other,” the source added.
Grande is currently focused on promoting Wicked 2, while Slater continues his Broadway commitments. Another insider said their romance has “become more than a little toxic,” and hinted that they might stay together only until after the release of Wicked: For Good.
Their relationship drew attention from the beginning, as both were married to other partners when they met on the set of Wicked. Slater’s estranged wife, Lilly Jay, previously described the situation as “a darkness” following the end of their marriage.
A source added that the “infatuation has worn off,” and Slater has struggled to adjust to Grande’s fame. Neither Grande nor Slater has publicly commented on the current state of their relationship.
