MQM-P urges development of clean air, EV policy
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan's (MQM-P's) leader Taha Khan, called on CM Murad Ali Shah to take action against the city's rapidly worsening air pollution. Khan, citing data from scientifically verified sources, stated that the air quality index based on PM2.5 levels in Karachi exceeds 150 micrograms per cubic metre - six times higher than the World Health Organisation's (WHO's) limit of 25 micrograms. He also noted that in some areas, the level has even crossed 200.
He urged the Sindh government to develop a Clean Air and Electric Vehicle Policy, including zoning restrictions on high-emission vehicles and industrial areas, expansion of electric public transport, incentives for the use of renewable energy, and initiatives for tree plantation and mangrove restoration.
