KARACHI:

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has undertaken major infrastructure development tasks aimed at enhancing air travel facilities across the country, including the expansion of Dera Ghazi Khan Airport's runway and feasibility studies for a new Sukkur International Airport.

Chairing the monthly DG PAA, E-Kachehri session, Deputy Director General Sameer Saeed said the runway at DG Khan Airport will be extended to 3,000 metres with a width of 45 metres, and construction is expected to be completed by December 2026.

He added that feasibility studies for establishing a new Sukkur International Airport are under way, while plans are also being considered to upgrade the existing airport to meet international standards.

Senior officials, including Directors of commercial, human resources, operations, Simulation Quality Management System (SQMS), and planning & development, attended the meeting, which reviewed ongoing projects and service concerns at various airports.

The Deputy DG Works and Development clarified that Dera Ghazi Khan and Hyderabad airports are fully available for operations, though the decision to start flights rests with airlines based on their commercial viability.

The session discussed complaints regarding baggage wrapping, loss of valuables, airline refunds, and staff behaviour. Issues of unlicensed forklift operators, parking charges, and difficulties facing passenger at Peshawar, Islamabad, and Sialkot airports were also raised.
