Twitch CEO Dan Clancy is going viral after tipping a streamer $100 in cash during a live broadcast—rather than gifting subscriptions—explaining that it allows creators to keep the full amount without Twitch taking a cut.
The moment occurred on October 6, 2025, while Clancy was streaming with content creator Heavenly. When asked to gift 20 subs to her community, the Twitch boss paused, reconsidered, and decided to hand her a $100 bill instead.
“Actually, no. No, no, no. I’m going to do better than gifting you 20 subs,” Clancy said as he pulled out his wallet. “This will be better, because if I gift you 20 subs, Twitch takes some of it.” He then handed the streamer the cash, adding, “That way she gets it all.”
Heavenly asked Clancy to sign the bill, saying she never planned to spend it. The lighthearted exchange has since sparked discussions about Twitch’s revenue split model, which takes a portion of each gifted subscription. Many creators and viewers see Clancy’s gesture as an unintentional acknowledgment that direct tipping may be more profitable for streamers than Twitch’s built-in sub system.
The Amazon-owned platform has faced ongoing criticism over its subscription revenue split, where streamers typically receive 50% of sub earnings. In comparison, rival platform Kick offers a 95/5 split, allowing creators to keep nearly all their earnings—though without Twitch’s ad revenue benefits.
Clancy’s spontaneous act highlights the growing debate about how platforms can better support creators while maintaining sustainable business models in the competitive live-streaming space.
