KARACHI:

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Pakistan Chapter has earned an official invitation from America's Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), paving the way for Pakistani innovators to directly engage with critical global sustainability challenges at the upcoming 2025 MIT Energy & Climate Hackathon.

Mehwish Salman Ali, Co-Chair of AAAI Pakistan, told The Express Tribune that the event presents an opportunity for Pakistani talent to learn from world-renowned MIT mentors, collaborate on cutting-edge solutions, and demonstrate Pakistan's growing capabilities in research and applied innovation.

Scheduled to take place from Nov 14 to 16, the hackathon invites candidates from all disciplines to gain hands-on research experience. The registration deadline is October 13, 2025.

Hosted at MIT's campus in the United States, the hackathon will focus on two themes: industrial decarbonisation and sustainable manufacturing. These areas target "hard-to-abate" sectors such as cement, steel, and chemicals, which collectively contribute nearly one-third of global carbon emissions.
