Donald Trump criticized the NFL’s decision to have global music superstar Bad Bunny perform at the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, calling it “absolutely ridiculous” during a Newsmax interview — despite admitting he had “never heard” of the artist.

“The NFL just chose the Bad Bunny rabbit or whatever his name is,” host Greg Kelly told Trump. “I’ve never heard of him,” Trump replied. “I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy… I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”

The NFL and Apple Music announced on September 28 that Bad Bunny would headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show, marking his only U.S. performance that year. The Latin Grammy winner’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, running from December 2025 to July 2026, notably skips U.S. venues. In a previous interview, Bad Bunny said his decision was partly due to concerns over ICE raids.

Following the announcement, Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and other conservative figures, including DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, echoed criticism of the Puerto Rican artist. Lewandowski warned that ICE agents would be “present at the Super Bowl” to enforce immigration laws, calling Bad Bunny’s selection “shameful.”

Bad Bunny responded subtly while hosting Saturday Night Live on October 3. “I’m very happy,” he said of the opportunity. “It’s more than a win for myself — it’s a win for all of us Latinos and Latinas in the U.S. Our contributions can’t be erased.”

Ending his SNL monologue with a wink at his critics, Bad Bunny added, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
