Celeste Rivas Hernandez was laid to rest at a funeral service held at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Mortuary in Rowland Heights, California, on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The 14-year-old’s body was found on September 8 in the trunk of a Tesla registered to singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.
The Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed that Rivas’ body was released to her family on September 23. Authorities are continuing to investigate her death and have searched a residence associated with the singer in connection to the case.
Rivas’ family and friends gathered to mourn her passing, following a candlelit vigil held in her hometown of Lake Elsinore, California, in late September.
Neighbors recalled seeing Rivas walking to school before she vanished. “I recognized her because of her big, curly hair,” one neighbor told the Los Angeles Times.
Rivas had been reported missing multiple times in 2024. Social media users have drawn attention to tattoos shared by both Rivas and D4vd, as well as the singer’s lyrics, though authorities have not confirmed any link. The singer has canceled subsequent tour dates, with remaining shows, including European stops, removed from venue websites.
LAPD Captain and Commanding Officer Scot M. Williams told PEOPLE that the Tesla had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, suggesting that Rivas had likely been deceased for some time before her body was discovered.
The cause and manner of her death have not yet been determined, and no criminal charges beyond concealment have been confirmed.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division continues to investigate, following multiple leads as authorities work to clarify the circumstances surrounding Rivas’ death.
