Elon Musk has confirmed that his artificial intelligence company, xAI, is developing what he describes as a “great AI-generated game,” with plans to release it before the end of 2026.
The announcement was made on X, the social media platform owned by Musk, where he wrote that “the xAI game studio will release a great AI-generated game before the end of next year.” The post marks the company’s most direct statement to date about its entry into the gaming industry.
xAI, best known for its conversational AI platform Grok, has already begun recruiting specialists for the project. According to an internal listing reported by Business Insider on October 3, xAI is hiring “video game tutors” to help train its AI models in areas such as game design, storytelling and mechanics. The positions reportedly offer rates of up to $100 per hour, signalling significant investment in building expertise within the gaming sector.
While AI tools are increasingly used across the industry for generating dialogue, procedural environments and design elements, a fully AI-produced video game has yet to reach mainstream audiences. Musk’s statement suggests that xAI intends to achieve this milestone within the next 12 to 15 months.
Musk has previously hinted at ambitions to integrate AI more deeply into creative industries, and the launch of an AI-generated game would mark a significant expansion of xAI’s business beyond chatbot technology.
Given Musk’s history of pioneering projects across technology and entertainment, industry analysts suggest the xAI gaming venture will be closely observed as one of the most ambitious efforts yet to apply generative AI in interactive entertainment.
