ISLAMABAD:

In a significant move to enhance transparency and protect consumers within the power sector, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and NADRA Technologies Limited signed on Saturday an agreement to implement mandatory biometric verification for all new electricity connections and reconnections.

The agreement, formalised at IESCO's Head Office by Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood, CEO of IESCO, and Umar Khan Azad, CEO of NADRA Technologies, represents a major step towards digitising utility services in alignment with the Government of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy's policies focused on consumer convenience and digitalisation.

Under this new system, biometric verification will be mandatory to authenticate applicants' identities, thereby ensuring secure and fraud-free access to electricity services.

The initiative is expected to streamline service delivery, eradicate fraudulent connections, and enhance accountability throughout the distribution network.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood underlined the importance of modernising infrastructure to meet the evolving demands of consumers. "This partnership with NADRA Technologies will not only improve operational efficiency but also strengthen public confidence in our services," he remarked.
