LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has given Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar three weeks to submit a report regarding allegations that a police station has been constructed on land previously used as a mosque near Lohari Gate.

Justice Farooq Haider, who presided over the hearing, directed the IGP, Chief Secretary, and Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to jointly investigate the matter and determine whether the mosque could be rebuilt.

During proceedings, Justice Haider noted that the petitioners had claimed worshippers regularly offered prayers at the site before it was taken over for the police station.

"There are security concerns inside police stations, but in most cases, space for a mosque is left within police premises," the judge observed.

"If there is any suitable space available, a mosque could be built there," he remarked.
