Fox has officially canceled its animated series The Great North after five seasons. The announcement was made on Friday, months after the network’s 2025–26 programming slate was revealed in May—with the show noticeably absent.
Created by Bob’s Burgers veterans Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, along with writer Minty Lewis, The Great North premiered in January 2021. The show’s final episode aired in mid-September 2025. Loren Bouchard, the creator of Bob’s Burgers, also served as an executive producer. The series was produced by 20th Television Animation, with animation by Bento Box Entertainment.
“We’re so grateful for everything Wendy, Lizzie, Loren, and the amazing cast and crew put into The Great North,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network, in a statement. “It’s difficult to say goodbye, but we’re thankful for the five hilarious seasons The Great North brought to the iconic Animation Domination lineup.”
The animated comedy followed the Tobin family’s quirky life in Alaska. At the center was single father Beef (voiced by Nick Offerman), who tried to keep his family close, particularly his daughter Judy (voiced by Jenny Slate), whose artistic ambitions pulled her away from the family’s fishing life. The ensemble also included Judy’s brother Wolf (Will Forte), his wife Honeybee (Dulcé Sloan), middle brother Ham (Paul Rust), and precocious youngest sibling Moon (Aparna Nancherla). Other notable voice actors included Megan Mullally as Judy’s boss Alyson and Alanis Morissette, who voiced herself as Judy’s Northern Lights-based imaginary friend.
While The Great North will not return, Fox has renewed several of its Animation Domination staples, including The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers, each receiving four-season renewals. American Dad is also returning to the Fox lineup after a brief hiatus, alongside newer animated titles like Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys.
Fans of The Great North have expressed appreciation for its unique setting and heartfelt humor, even as the show bows out of Fox’s primetime animation block.
