Bad Bunny addressed political backlash with humour and pride during his Saturday Night Live appearance, using his monologue to respond to criticism surrounding his upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show performance.

The Puerto Rican artist, announced as the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner, has drawn opposition from some conservative commentators.

Megyn Kelly described the NFL’s decision as a “middle finger to America,” while others criticised the artist’s previous comments about immigration enforcement.

On SNL, Bad Bunny tackled the controversy directly. “Anyways, you might not know this, but I’m doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show,” he said with a smile.

“I’m very happy, and I think everyone is happy about it. Even Fox News.” A pre-recorded montage then showed Fox News commentators humorously edited to say: “Bad Bunny is my favourite artist, and he would be the best president.”

The moment drew laughter from the studio audience, but the monologue also carried a message of cultural pride. Speaking in Spanish, Bad Bunny said: “Especialmente todos los Latinos… more than an achievement of mine, it’s an achievement of everyone, showing that our footprint and contribution to this country, no one will ever be able to take it away or erase it.”

He ended his appearance with a pointed joke: “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn!” The remark, met with applause, was interpreted by fans as both a playful challenge and a statement of cultural confidence ahead of his Super Bowl debut.
