Finneas faces backlash after taking dig at Taylor Swift’s 'The Life of a Showgirl' album

Finneas appeared to like a TikTok describing Taylor Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl as ‘spiritually Israeli’.

Finneas is facing online criticism after social media users noticed he had liked a TikTok describing Taylor Swift’s new album The Life of a Showgirl as “spiritually Israeli”.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning musician and producer, known for his work with his sister Billie Eilish, became the subject of backlash on X after screenshots of the interaction spread widely.

The phrase prompted debate across platforms, with many interpreting it as a reference to genocide metaphors. A second screenshot appearing to show Finneas liking the post intensified the reaction, leading some users to accuse him of endorsing the sentiment.

Social media users responded with a mixture of criticism and disbelief. One comment read, “What does ‘spiritually Israeli’ even mean?” while another questioned why the phrase was used in connection with a pop album. Some posts linked the situation to Finneas’s past public support for Palestine, suggesting inconsistency in his online behaviour.

The Life of a Showgirl, released on October 3, 2025, is Taylor Swift’s twelfth studio album. The record has drawn mixed reviews, with praise for its theatrical pop production and criticism of its lyrical tone.

Despite divided opinions, the album achieved a record-breaking 249.99 million first-day streams on Spotify, becoming the platform’s most-streamed album of 2025 and the second largest debut in history after Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department.
