The first heavy winter rain drenched Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Friday, ending the prolonged dry spell and breaking the intensity of heat and humidity.
The sudden chill prompted residents to pull out warm clothing and blankets, while air conditioners were switched off and fans reduced to minimum use.
The twin cities had gone without rain for over six weeks, worsening the humidity.
But Friday's showers brought a marked change in weather, with motorcyclists donning sweaters at night and elderly residents unpacking woollens.
Vendors quickly set up carts selling winter favourites such as peanuts and roasted chickpeas.
