Floods 2011: Army and Navy continue relief work

As many as 2,000 army personnel are employed in relief and rescue operation.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army continued with relief and rescue operation in flood affected parts of Sindh on Wednesday. As many as 2,000 army personnel, two MI 17 Helicopters, 100 motorized boats, heavy vehicles and machinery, were employed in the relief and rescue operation.

According to an ISPR press release, the Pakistan Army has established army relief camps and medical camps at Sanghar, Mir Pur Khas,Umer Kot and Badin. So far, 60,000 persons have been rescued and 900 tons of ration has also been distributed among affectees.

To provide safe drinking water in the flood affected areas, 10 water filtration plants have been established. Meanwhile army doctors treated more than 45,000 patients in medical camps and mobile medical units in all flood affected districts.

Pakistan Navy distributes rations

Pakistan Navy (PN) relief teams distributed more than two tonnes of ration in the flood-hit areas of Badin, Jhudo and Sanghar, while 1400 flood affectees from Tando Bago and Jhudo areas were provided medical treatment at the PN relief camps.

A PN Public Relations Directorate  press release said a convoy of PN trucks carrying relief goods comprising of 1000 ration bags and over 300 tents has been sent to district Sanghar for the flood-hit families. They would also be provided fresh water for domestic use.

During the last 24 hours, over 1,000 patients were given medical treatment at PN medical camps at Tando Bago and Jhudo, while the PN mobile medical teams examined and treated another 400 patients.

The PN also dispatched de-flooding pumps to district Sanghar for pumping out accumulated rainwater from the marooned areas.
