Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri has moved the Supreme Court against the Sindh High Court (SHC) ruling that dismissed his plea to become a party in a fake degree case concerning him.
A petition filed in the apex court challenges the SHC's Sept 25 decision, with Justice Jahangiri contending that the order is unlawful as it was passed without hearing the affected party.
The petition argues that the SHC overlooked the question of maintainability and delivered an ex-parte judgment, denying the petitioner an opportunity to be heard or represented by counsel.
The plea maintains that Justice Jahangiri's degree issue could not have been taken up before a constitutional bench and asserts that the cancellation of his degree is "malafide and illegal". It further points out that the petitioner is not only a sitting judge of the IHC but has also held various bar offices in the past.
The petition has named 10 institutions as respondents in the case, including the Sindh Higher Education Commission, the University of Karachi and the Pemra.
