The heavens opened on some cities of Sindh on Tuesday, with light to heavy showers received in Benazirabad, Noushehro Feroze, Sanghar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and other districts. The Pakistan Meteorological Department recorded up to 41 millimeter rain in Benazirabad by 5:30pm but the precipitation continued through the evening.
The rain, accompanied by dust storm, started in Hyderabad around 5pm, entailing widespread power breakdown with Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) acknowledging outages in 108 feeders of 11 KV or around 70% of the total feeders.
The rainfall readings could not be obtained from the local office of the PMD. However, the district administration recorded 35 mm precipitation in City taluka, 32 mm in Latifabad, 25 mm in Qasimabad and 20 mm in Hyderabad rural taluka.
The rainfall troubled commuters especially on the roads with broken patches, speed breakers and depression spots while railway underpasses and gradients also remained filled with rainwater. A number of motorbikes became stuck while wading through such places. The PMD has forecast rains in parts of Sindh from September 29 to October 2.
