Pakistan’s Sameer Khan defeated India’s Bunty Singh to clinch the Youth World Bantamweight boxing title at the World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The fight, on Saturday, saw Khan dominated throughout bout. His attacks left the Indian opponent struggling to avoid his powerful punches. After unanimous decision by the panel of referees, Khan was declared the winner and awarded the Youth World Bantamweight (YWB) belt.
Following his victory, the Pakistani boxer fell to the ground in a gesture of thanks. “I dedicate this win to the people of Pakistan,” he said after donning the championship belt.
Sameer Khan shared his winning moments on Instagram, saying: “Alhamdulillah, I am the first Pakistani to win this title — UBO Youth World Bantamweight Champion.”
Even before the bout began, Sameer Khan set the tone with ‘jet celebration’, a gesture that visibly riled his Indian rival Bunty Singh.
The move drew parallels to cricketer Haris Rauf’s fiery celebration against India, which had once sparked heated debate across the border. The International Cricket Council fined Haris Rauf 30 per cent of their match fees for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Asia Cup.
The sanctions were imposed by ICC match referee Richie Richardson following incidents during the high-voltage Pakistan-India encounters earlier this month.
Rauf was penalised for a gesture during the Super Four match on September 21. Responding to heckling from Indian fans, he signalled ‘6-0’ with his hands and mimicked the downing of aircraft. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had lodged a complaint against the pacer.
