Concerns over safety at TwitchCon 2025 have intensified after streamer Asmongold criticised Twitch CEO Dan Clancy’s assurances and warned women against attending the event.
TwitchCon is scheduled for October 17–19 in San Diego, offering fans and creators a chance to meet in person. However, the event has drawn scrutiny following the withdrawal of high-profile streamers Valkyrae and QTCinderella.
Both of whom, said they were “afraid to go”, citing safety fears linked to the stabbing of a creator in Japan earlier this year.
During a livestream, Clancy stated that Twitch takes security “extremely seriously” and has dedicated teams working year-round. “We have rules and standards regarding TwitchCon attendees, and we limit people who have been indefinitely suspended off service violations — they are not able to attend,” he said.
Asmongold, however, expressed doubts about Twitch’s handling of safety at past events. In response to Clancy’s remarks he recalled incidents where streamers were assaulted at TwitchCon 2024.
“Last year, nmplol and wake were sexually assaulted by a streamer and Twitch didn’t press charges or pursue any form of legal action against him,” he stated.
The incident referenced involved Kick streamer DBR666, who was removed from the venue by security after violating the event’s code of conduct.
Despite this, Asmongold criticised Twitch for taking no further action. “If I was a woman, I would never go to TwitchCon,” he said.
Safety concerns at TwitchCon are not new. In 2022, Amouranth revealed her security intervened after stalkers followed her around the venue.
The ongoing concerns, alongside the decision of major creators to withdraw, have placed renewed pressure on Twitch to address safety standards at its flagship event.
