The remains of Travis Decker, the Washington state father accused of killing his three daughters, have been confirmed, authorities said Thursday, September 25.

Decker, 32, was accused of killing his daughters, Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, during a court-approved visit on May 30.

His remains were found in a remote wooded area south of Leavenworth on September 18. DNA testing confirmed his identity.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison said the discovery brings “closure to this dark chapter” for law enforcement and the victims’ family. The coroner’s office is still determining the exact time and cause of death.

Authorities noted that a drone spotted a T-shirt that led them to Decker’s “well-decomposed” remains, located less than a mile from where the daughters’ bodies were discovered.

Federal agencies had been involved in an extensive search, which included tracking online activity and potential sightings, though none were confirmed.

Whitney Decker, the mother, had previously revised custody arrangements due to concerns about Decker’s mental health struggles.

Despite these precautions, she never suspected he would harm the children. Authorities confirmed there are no other suspects in the case.
