Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the launch of a metro bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan.
Addressing a gathering, she said a South Punjab secretariat would be established and 101 electric buses would be brought for Dera Ghazi Khan division. The buses will operate in all districts of the division.
She emphasised that just as Lahore is known as "Takht Lahore", there is also Takht Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, and Takht Dera Ghazi Khan. "The people of South Punjab have honored me with love and respect, which I will never forget," she added.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the enthusiasm of the people of Dera Ghazi Khan regarding the electric buses had encouraged her.
She promised, "Even if billions of rupees are spent, we will not let Dera Ghazi Khan suffer losses."
She said she, her cabinet and entire team were working tirelessly and would leave no stone unturned in serving the people.
She said, "I will never allow anyone to look at the people of Punjab with malice."
She highlighted that 25 million people from other provinces reside in Punjab for employment and the local hospitals are open to everyone.
She pledged that if Sindh faces a calamity, Punjab will stand with it. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz referred to President Asif Ali Zardari as an elder and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as a younger brother, but urged spokespersons of the allied party to act responsibly, alleging that the issue of floods was being politicised.
She declared, "For me, there is no difference between South, central or upper Punjab. All are equal, and I am the chief minister for all." She compared the regions to her daughters and son.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz criticised those who repeatedly raise the issue of South Punjab, calling it a power-seeking narrative. She said all major projects in South Punjab had been launched by PML-N, including motorways, expressways and the electric buses in DG Khan.
She said, "Those who talk about South Punjab never launched a single project during their rule. Projects used to start and end in big cities, but now electric buses are being launched not in Lahore, Rawalpindi or Faisalabad first, but in Mianwali, Wazirabad and DG Khan."
She also announced that the first project for malnourished children had been initiated in South Punjab districts.
