Xbox has announced another round of price increases for its consoles in the United States, following a similar hike earlier this year in May. The new prices will go into effect on October 3 and apply to all current Xbox Series models — but only in the U.S. for now. Prices for Xbox controllers and headsets remain unchanged.
Here’s the updated pricing:
-
Xbox Series S 512GB: $399.99 (up $20)
-
Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99 (up $20)
-
Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99 (up $50)
-
Xbox Series X: $649.99 (up $50)
-
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: $799.99 (up $70)
According to Microsoft, the price increases are due to shifts in the "macroeconomic environment." The company says it remains focused on expanding access to its games across various platforms while continuing to deliver value to Xbox players.
This move comes amid a broader trend of rising prices in the gaming industry, especially in the U.S., where ongoing tariff uncertainty and manufacturing costs are impacting hardware, accessories, and software. Sony recently raised hardware prices, and Nintendo followed suit by increasing prices for the original Switch and some accessories after unveiling the $450 Switch 2.
Xbox also recently raised Game Pass prices and initially planned to launch $80 games this holiday season — a decision it has since walked back, confirming there will be no $80 games this year.
Industry analysts attribute these increases to a mix of rising production costs, competitive pressures, and U.S.-specific tariffs.
