Medical schools entry test: Two of top three from Rahim Yar Khan

Two students from Rahim Yar Khan were among the top three in the entrance test results for medical and dental colleges in Punjab announced by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Tuesday.


A total of 33,703 candidates sat the entrance test on September 13, of which 12,374 scored more than 60 per cent; 5,581 scored 50 to 59 per cent; 5,214 scored 40 to 49 per cent; and 10,534 candidates scored less than 40 per cent. There is no pass/fail mark in these exams.

Maham Ali, daughter of Ali Muhammad Farooqui from Rahim Yar Khan, scored the highest marks, getting 1058 out of 1100. Humera Javed, daughter of Asif Javed from Gujranwala, and Muhammad Salman Ashraf, son of Muhamad Ashraf from Rahim Yar Khan, came second and third with 1055 and 1052 marks, respectively.

The candidates will now compete for 3,205 medical and 216 dental seats in 18 public sector colleges. Besides, there is also space for 1,500 MBBS and 350 BDS students in 15 private medical and seven private dental colleges in the province.

UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Malik Hussain Mubashar said that applications for admissions would be invited from October 5 and close on October 15.

Candidates with scores of at least 77 per cent according to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council’s merit formula would be eligible to apply for admission, he said. The first selection list would be published on October 30 and classes would begin on November 21.

Prof Mubashar said that a committee had been set up to deal with student complaints and queries regarding the entrance test results. Candidates can register complaints with the committee up to October 5, he said.
