KARACHI:

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 22 individuals attempting to illegally cross into Iran via the Arabian Sea.

According to a spokesperson for the FIA Composite Circle, Gwadar, the arrests were made during operations conducted in the Jiwani and Gabd (PB-250) coastal areas of Balochistan on Monday. The suspects were intercepted while trying to exit Pakistan through unauthorised maritime routes.

Initial investigations revealed that the individuals had planned to enter Iran illegally, with the ultimate aim of reaching other foreign destinations via human smuggling networks.

The arrested individuals hail from various parts of Pakistan, with 13 from Punjab, 7 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and two from Sindh. “All 22 suspects have been booked under relevant laws, and formal investigations have been initiated,” the FIA spokesperson confirmed.

The agency reiterated its commitment to curbing human trafficking and urged citizens not to fall prey to the false promises of illegal immigration agents, warning that such journeys often put lives at serious risk.

Pakistan’s coastal belt, particularly in Balochistan, has long been a key transit point used by human smuggling syndicates, despite repeated crackdowns by law enforcement agencies.
