PESHAWAR:

Two new polio cases have been confirmed in the districts of Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan in southern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) confirmed on Monday.

The latest cases bring the total number of polio infections in Pakistan this year to 26.

The NEOC said high-quality vaccination campaigns were under way in southern K-P to contain the virus. “Polio campaigns help protect children from this incurable disease,” it said, adding that fresh drives had begun in southern K-P, Bajaur and Upper Dir.

The NEOC said more than 1.685 million children under the age of five would be targeted in this week’s campaign. “Parents are urged to ensure their children receive polio drops in every campaign,” it said.
