Tyler Robinson, 22, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
His family told the Daily Mail they are “so confused” by the arrest, describing Robinson as shy and insisting he had never expressed strong political views around them.
They said the reports are difficult to reconcile with the person they know, and the allegations have left them shocked and struggling to process the situation.
Robinson’s grandmother added that he comes from a MAGA household, with both of his parents registered as Republicans.
She said most of the family supports Donald Trump and that she does not know of any relatives who identify as Democrats.
Despite this, relatives maintain that Robinson never showed signs of radical behavior and had never been in trouble before.
Public records list him as an inactive voter, suggesting he did not participate in recent presidential elections, though some reports indicate he had become more politically outspoken in recent years and may have criticized Kirk privately.
