LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has sought arguments from the federal government on the objections raised by the court's Registrar Office on a plea filed by Hassan Niazi, a nephew of former prime minister Imran Khan, who was convicted to ten years in prison in a May 9 case.

Hassan, who was tried by a military court for his involvement in acts of vandalism following the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9, 2023, approached the LHC through Faisal Siddiqi Advocate challenging his handover to the army as well as trial by military authorities.

A division bench comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Tariq Mehmood Bajwa heard the plea and issued notice to the federal government for September 16 to address office objections.

The LHC Registrar Office raised objections to the petition for not annexing an attested copy of the commanding officer's order with the case file and for not approaching the appropriate forum.

The petitioner's counsel contended that after his client's arrest in the Jinnah House Attack case, he was never produced before any anti-terrorism court (ATC) or other civilian courts.
