Alleged killer of cop dies in encounter

A proclaimed offender, Waseem Suniara, who had allegedly martyred a police constable, was killed in an encounter, while his accomplices managed to escape.

The police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for legal proceedings.

Police officials said Waseem had opened fire during a police raid on Monday evening and martyred Constable Ashfaq Ahmed, who was posted at Faisalabad Saddar Police Station.

They said the area SHO had received information that proclaimed offender Waseem wanted in 50 cases, including the martyrdom of Constable Ashfaq, was present in Chak No. 236. Acting on the tip-off, a police contingent raided the location.

The accused opened fire, triggering a shootout, during which Waseem was injured by bullets fired by his accomplices.

He succumbed to his injuries while being transpirted to a hospital.

The accomplices of the deceased escaped.

SSP Investigation Nasir Mehmood Bajwa reached the spot along with a police contingent after the encounter, cordoned off the area and launched a search for the fleeing accomplices of the deceased.

The police shifted the body to the mortuary unit of the Allied Hospital for post-mortem.
