Vehicle transfer, registration fees hiked
Following a complete shortfall in tax collection during the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year, the Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has increased late registration and vehicle transfer fees for all types of vehicles and motorcycles.
The changes will take immediate effect, as announced in a Gazette notification issued by the Punjab Governor.
Under the revised fee structure, the transfer fee for a 1,000cc jeep has been revised upward to Rs2,000; for vehicles between 1,001cc and 1,800cc to Rs4,000; for vehicles above 1,800cc to Rs6,000; for all light transport vehicles to Rs1,000; and for heavy transport vehicles to Rs5,000.
Under the electric vehicles category, the department will charge Rs2,000 for up to 50kW, Rs4,000 for 51-100 kW, and Rs,000 for above 100 kW EVs. The transfer fee for all motorcycles will be Rs1,000.
In addition, penalties have been introduced for delays in registering new vehicles. Up to one-month delay, an amount of Rs2,000 will be paid as fine in addition to applicable fees; Rs3,000 will be paid over a two-month delay; Rs5,000 fine over three months delay; Rs7,000 fine over a four-month delay; Rs10,000 over a five-month delay; while Rs15,000 fine will be paid over a delay of six months or more.
