Karachi commuters face gridlock as Malir River floods key routes

Advisory urges citizens to follow Sindh Police FM 88.6, traffic police social media

Flooding in the Malir River forced the closure of Korangi Crossing and EBM Causeway on Thursday, creating major traffic disruptions across the city, according to Karachi Traffic Police.

The closure caused gridlock at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Jam Sadiq Bridge, Expressway, Brooks Chowrangi, and Defence Signal, where long queues of vehicles turned short journeys into hours.

Traffic Police said pressure from the closed causeways shifted to Jam Sadiq Bridge and adjoining routes, worsening congestion.

Long queues of vehicles turned short commutes into hours-long delays, with ambulances and office-goers also stuck in traffic.

An alert advised commuters that Korangi Road and Causeway Road remain inaccessible due to floodwater. Motorists were urged to call the helpline 1915 for route updates before travelling.

The advisory also directed citizens to tune in to Sindh Police FM 88.6 and follow the traffic police's social media pages for live updates.

Drivers were reminded to stay in lanes, follow signals, and remain patient.

Traffic police said personnel are deployed to manage the situation and will continue efforts to keep traffic flowing as rainfall continues.
