Pakistan, along with Algeria and Somalia, on Wednesday requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss Israel's reckless airstrikes on Qatar.
"In view of the unprovoked illegal Israeli aggression against the brotherly State of Qatar, Pakistan, along with Algeria and Somalia, has requested an Emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, to discuss the situation and seize itself of this grave matter," said Deputy Prime Minister and Ishaq Dar in a brief statement.
"Pakistan expresses its complete solidarity and firm support with the Government and brotherly people of Qatar," he added
The unprecedented Israeli strikes hit a residential complex in Doha's Leqtaifiya district where senior Hamas officials were meeting to discuss a Gaza ceasefire. While the Hamas leaders survived, at least six people, including relatives of a senior Hamas negotiator and a Qatari security officer, were killed. It was the first known Israeli military operation on Qatari soil.
Qatar denounced the strike as a violation of its sovereignty and suspended its mediation role in ongoing ceasefire talks. The attack has drawn widespread condemnation, with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Germany, Russia, and the UK calling it a breach of international law.
Pakistan said Israel's actions showed "continued disregard for international peace and security" and called on the global community to hold it accountable. The UNSC session is expected to be held later this week.
Earlier, Pakistan condemned in the strongest possible terms the Israeli aggression against the brotherly country of Qatar.
"This highly provocative and reckless action constitutes a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty as well as international law, the UN Charter, and the established norms governing interstate relations," foreign office said in a statement .
Pakistan expressed its complete solidarity with the brotherly State of Qatar against this unprovoked and unlawful aggression.
"This reckless action by Israel is yet another manifestation of its continued disregard for international peace and security, and its policy of destabilising the region. Pakistan has consistently maintained that such impunity must not be tolerated by the international community," according to the statement.
"We reaffirm our principled position in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, and call upon the international community to hold Israel accountable."
The statement said Pakistan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the brotherly people and the leadership of Qatar in defence of their national sovereignty and security.
