Government fails to appoint OGDC head

To publish ads again for finding a suitable candidate.

ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to again publish advertisements for appointing managing director of the country’s largest oil and gas explorer – Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) – after an interview committee could not find a suitable candidate for the post.

However, the committee, headed by Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain, recommended that acting managing directors of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) should be appointed as new heads of these companies.

The committee recommended names of Acting MD SNGPL Arif Hameed, Acting MD SSGC Azeem Iqbal Sidiqui and Acting MD PPL Asim Murtaza after conducting interviews on Monday.

Sources told The Express Tribune that Insar Nasar had been recommended as new managing director of Government Holdings Private Limited and final decision would be taken by the prime minister.

However, for appointing the OGDC managing director the government will publish advertisements once again. Sources said the committee conducted interviews to appoint a new head on Monday, but nobody was selected.

OGDC’s Acting Managing Director Bisharat Mirza and other senior executives Riaz Khan, Chaudhry Zafar and Zahid Imran Farani appeared in the interviews.

The largest oil and gas explorer recently announced earnings that rose seven per cent to Rs63.52 billion in the financial year 2011 compared with Rs59.18 billion posted in the same period last year.

Earlier, the petroleum ministry had sent a summary to the prime minister, recommending Zahid Imran Farani and Insar Nasar as new managing directors of OGDC and Government Holdings respectively.

However, the Establishment Division objected to the composition of the interview committee which comprised members of the board of directors. It called for including the petroleum minister in the committee for a second round of interviews.

afzal unus | 13 years ago | Reply ashfaq ali dear i read ur comment , u are not well informed about the md of a large exploration and production company , because most probabaly u r not an oil or gas industery professional, in a shot i will only say that: i) the md of such a big company should be an explorationist ,masters in the relavent subject, and have very vast & broad experience in different structural geological tectonics, rather than a cemical, mechenical, electrical ro any other engineer, mathemacian, physicist, ii) the md sould be from the same organization who can understand all the nature of exploration problems i.e., the understanding of risks involves in the investments therefore, at the present there is a best candidate for this is the Zahid Imran Farani who covers the above 2 points with the quality of honesty , but now a days there r problems with the persons who have the quality of honesty, therefore, i don't agree with u. i also request 2 the editors of all the news papers 2 invent a method for discover the truth afzal unus

Dear editor Express Tribune paper

i would like to share information regarding interviews for MD OGDCL Govt is not sincere to appoint MD on merit basis,becoz some of internal (ogdcl employee) candidiate who appeared for interviews from ogdcl were not eligible for post of MD ogdcl becz according the advertisment for post of MD candidiate should have Masters degree according to my knoledge Mr Riaz Khan, Mr Zafar choudhry holding bechlors degree the man who is from ogdcl has Masters degree in chemical and he is compitent he got maximum number in interview, he has drawback that he is not political affilated from any political parties, i would like to mention his name ,He is Mr Muhammad Shafique working in ogdcl at Qadirpur gas plant the largest gas producing palnt. his name is not mentioned in your news paper even he was appeared in interview so i must request you to mobilze your news repoter to invetigate and diclose the facts that why Md is not being selected after the interviews twice. in my opinion nobody can compete Mr shafique against this post if selection made on merit.
