The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has officially rolled out digital invoicing for all sales tax-registered taxpayers, with priority integration for corporate businesses.
The new system aims to eliminate fake or unverifiable invoices, simplify tax return filing and bring greater transparency to Pakistan's documented economy. It aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's vision of digitalisation in every sector.
According to the FBR, taxpayers can now integrate their invoicing systems with licensed integrators, including Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL) – free of cost, Haball, WebDNAWorks and EY. Once integrated, digital invoices are automatically generated within the taxpayer's system, eliminating excess work and ensuring accuracy.
Each approved invoice carries a QR (quick response) code and unique invoice number, accessible to both suppliers and buyers through the digital portal. This feature ensures secure reporting and allows buyers to view invoices and claim input tax seamlessly.
Additionally, the FBR has introduced a new Business Intelligence Dashboard, which offers taxpayers historical and real-time insights into invoice volume, type and value. With a single click, businesses can auto-populate and load all approved invoices for the tax period, streamlining compliance.
The FBR has developed a presentation on the digital invoicing process, which includes screenshots of the portal. It maps the whole process step by step and highlights the significance of integrating with the FBR to enjoy the aforesaid benefits.
