All public and private educational institutions in Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday, September 10, following forecasts of heavy monsoon rains and severe weather conditions.
The decision was made following a weather advisory from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), warning of widespread rain, strong winds, and thundershowers in the region, an official notification issued by the Karachi Commissioner stated on Tuesday.
The notification stated, “In view of the ensuing heavy monsoon rains in Karachi Division and the weather advisory issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department regarding widespread rain-wind/thundershower, the Government of Sindh hereby announces Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as a holiday for educational institutions.”
All public and private schools, colleges, and other educational establishments within the territorial jurisdiction of Karachi Division will remain closed on the declared day to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and staff.
The notification has urged all stakeholders to take necessary precautions amid the inclement weather and stay updated on further announcements.
This precautionary measure comes as Karachi braces for potentially heavy rainfall, with concerns over flooding and traffic disruptions. Parents and guardians are advised to make suitable arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of their children during this period.
It is important to note that earlier in the week, a fake notification regarding a school holiday on Tuesday circulated widely on social media. The Sindh Education Department swiftly issued a clarification, denying the authenticity of that announcement and urging the public to rely on official sources.
The government continues to closely monitor the evolving weather situation and has directed relevant authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for emergency response and relief operations if necessary.
